Snap-8 — Acetyl Octapeptide-3 (Acetyl Glutamyl Heptapeptide-1)
10mg vial · Topical cosmetic peptide · Argireline elongation · Not for injection
Quick Start
⚠️
Topical Use Only — Do Not Inject
Snap-8 is a cosmetic peptide developed and studied for topical application (serums, creams). It is not an injectable peptide and has no injectable research data. This guide covers reconstitution into a topical serum base only.
What It Is
Snap-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3, also named Acetyl Glutamyl Heptapeptide-1) is an eight-amino-acid peptide — an elongation of Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8). It is marketed as a topical "Botox-like" cosmetic peptide studied for the appearance of expression lines, particularly forehead and around-eye lines caused by repeated muscle movement.
Research Route
Topical serum. The powder is dissolved and blended into a water-based serum, then applied to clean skin over expression-line areas, typically twice daily. Final concentration is set by how much serum base the 10mg vial is added to — see the Formulation table. Commonly referenced finished-product range is ~0.05–0.1% active; DIY formulators sometimes go higher.
Regulatory Status
Acetyl Octapeptide-3 is a recognised cosmetic ingredient used in topical anti-ageing products. It is not a drug and is not FDA-approved for any therapeutic claim. Supplied by LA LAB for research and cosmetic-formulation purposes only. Not for ingestion or injection.
Serum Formulation — 10mg Vial

The final active concentration is determined by the serum base volume you blend the 10mg into. Choose a target concentration, then use the matching base volume:

Serum Base VolumeFinal Snap-8 %ConcentrationNotes
20 mL0.05%0.5 mg/mLLower end of finished-product range; gentlest
10 mL0.10%1.0 mg/mLTypical finished-product concentration
5 mL0.20%2.0 mg/mLStronger DIY serum
2 mL0.50%5.0 mg/mLHigh-strength small test batch
1 mL1.00%10.0 mg/mLConcentrate; patch-test first
One 10mg vial makes a single serum batch at the concentration above. For a standard 0.1% serum, blend the full 10mg into 10 mL of serum base. A patch test is advised before regular use with any new concentration.
ℹ️
Choosing a Serum Base
Use a water-based serum or hydrosol with a suitable preservative (peptides in water need broad-spectrum preservation). Snap-8 is water-soluble and heat-sensitive — add it to the cool-down phase, never to hot base. Avoid strong acids/bases which can degrade the peptide.
Reconstitution & Mixing Steps
01
Dissolve the powder
Add ~1 mL distilled or bacteriostatic water to the 10mg vial, running it down the wall. Swirl gently until fully dissolved. Do not shake.
02
Prepare the serum base
Measure your chosen base volume (e.g. 10 mL for a 0.1% serum) into a clean, sanitised container. Ensure the base is at room temperature or cooler.
03
Blend in the peptide
Add the dissolved Snap-8 to the serum base and stir gently until uniform. The ~1 mL of water counts toward your total volume — adjust slightly if precise % matters.
04
Confirm preservation & pH
Ensure a broad-spectrum preservative is present. Target a mildly acidic-to-neutral pH (~5–6). Bottle in an airless or dropper container.
05
Patch test
Apply a small amount to the inner forearm and wait 24 hours before facial use, especially for concentrations above 0.1%.
06
Apply & store
Apply to clean skin over expression-line areas twice daily. Store the finished serum refrigerated (2–8°C); use within 30 days, or per your preservative system.
Mechanism of Action
SNARE Complex Inhibition
Snap-8 mimics the N-terminal end of SNAP-25, a protein in the SNARE complex that drives neurotransmitter vesicle fusion. By competing for a place in the complex, it is proposed to reduce catecholamine and acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction.
Reduced Muscle Contraction
Lower neurotransmitter release is thought to soften the micro-contractions that fold skin into expression lines — a "topical, superficial" analogy to botulinum toxin, but far weaker and reversible, acting only on the outer layers reached topically.
Argireline Elongation
Snap-8 is an eight-amino-acid extension of the six-residue Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8). Supplier data suggests the longer chain improves activity in the same SNAP-25/SNARE pathway relative to Argireline.
Topical Penetration Limit
As a relatively large, hydrophilic peptide, dermal penetration is limited and effects are surface-level and gradual (weeks of consistent use). It does not reach or affect deep muscle the way injectables do.
Evidence & Expectations
ℹ️
Supplier / Cosmetic Data
Manufacturer-reported studies of anti-wrinkle formulations containing Snap-8 solution applied twice daily over ~4 weeks describe measurable reductions in wrinkle depth. These are cosmetic-industry, non-peer-reviewed datasets. Independent published clinical evidence is limited, and effects are modest and gradual compared with in-clinic procedures.
⚠️
Set Realistic Expectations
Topical Snap-8 softens the appearance of fine expression lines with consistent use; it does not paralyse muscle or replicate injectable neuromodulators. Results are subtle, build over weeks, and reverse when use stops. Discontinue if irritation occurs.
